U.S. flood risk is increasing steadily due to historic wet soil moisture, heavy precipitation events and snowmelt. Worsening flood conditions evolve during spring.

Another severe weather event is unfolding in the Mid-South U.S. This one will not be as violent as observed in Alabama earlier this week but still packs a punch. Tornadoes are likely today in Arkansas to Tennessee to Mississippi.

The U.S. has just observed the wettest meteorological winter in the 1895-2019 period of record. Partially to blame is historic warmer than normal oceans.

A combination of an intense jet stream flow coupled with an unusually warm Gulf of Mexico lead to an unusually intense tornado outbreak in the Southeast U.S. on March 3rd.
