Discussion: A Tornado Watch has been extended to midday across southeast Alabama and the western Florida Panhandle (Fig. 1). Last night, 27 tornado reports were issued for the tornado outbreak, mostly in Mississippi (Fig. 2). Lingering heavy rains prompt continuation of Flood Watch areas for southern Mississippi and northern Alabama. The attendant cold front sweeps across the East today causing widespread wet weather in the Northeast Corridor (Fig. 3) and developing gales causing a Wind Advisory issued for 11 states. In the West, the onset of a stormy pattern with widespread snow across interior sections prompting Winter Storm Warnings for heavy amount. The NOAA/WPC 7-day quantitative precipitation outlook identifies a Pacific storm track most-focused on northwest California/southwest Oregon coastal areas (Fig. 4). The outlook also indicates another heavy rain event centered on the Tennessee Valley for early next week. The U.S. gas population weight HDD forecast trend is colder for the next 2 weeks and colder than the 30-year normal (Fig. 5).
