+ABNA Index Dominates North America Climate Signals

The Asia/Bering Sea/North America (ABNA) index remains very positive and is the lead climate signal influence on the North America upper air pattern for the first half of June. The +ABNA regime is present when a strong trough is near the Bering Sea and compensated for by an upper ridge over East-central North America.

North Atlantic Basin 10-Day Tropical Monitor: Tropical cyclone season begins!

The North Atlantic tropical cyclone season is underway today. Forecasters agree that due to El Nino, below normal activity is expected this season. Currently, upper shear dominates the subtropical/tropical basin preventing any early season features from organizing. Strong trade winds are pushing Africa dust across the tropics reaching the Caribbean Islands. The Gulf of Mexico is showery/thundery through the next 10 days, but no organized events are forecast.
