Discussion: The Nino SSTA regions cooled slightly again last week according to NOAA (Fig. 1). Oceanic El Nino continues to slowly fade. The Nino12 SSTA region off the northwest coast of South America shifts cooler to near the La Nina threshold. The subsurface equatorial Pacific Ocean is cooling dramatically and offers a guarantee that El Nino will weaken rapidly during APR/MAY with La Nina likely to quickly follow (Fig. 2).
