Highlight: Hottest July on record from the 133-year climatology.

Discussion: The U.S. observed the hottest July on record. Wyoming observed their hottest July on record while 20 states finished in the MUCH ABOVE normal category (Fig. 1). 14 of 20 states observed top 5 hottest all-time while 4 states were top 3 all-time hottest. Three regions observed searing heat and each experiencing accompanying hostile drought including the West-central U.S., Mid-Atlantic to Florida, and developing drought in the Mid-South States. There were no states observed normal or cooler than normal mid-summer temperature.

The U.S. observed their 26^th driest July on record. Maine was the driest state while 16 states observed below normal rainfall (Fig. 2). Texas, The Great Basin, South Dakota, The Tennessee Valley, and Southern New England were wetter than normal. Each of the Southern New England States ranked MUCH ABOVE normal rainfall.
