Discussion: The U.S. population weight CDD forecast sizzles to a consensus forecast of 95 for the week of August 6-12 (Fig. 1). All models, except for CMC ENS, are agreeable. If so, August 6-12 will be the hottest week of summer 2026 across the U.S. The hot weather regime is the 4^th major heatwave of summer 2026 in the U.S. somewhat equally distributed through meteorological summer (Fig. 2). As usual, buoyant CDD values in the U.S. indicate the high population East is involved.

Currently, heatwaves are ongoing in the Mid-south U.S. to the Gulf States, Southwest U.S. (where an excessive heat warning is issued), and emerging in the northwestern Great Plains (Fig. 3). Heavy rains in New England yesterday linger as a Flood Watch is posted for southern New Hampshire. The next round of excessive rainfall causing flooding is in the Midwest States developing today (Fig. 4) and continuing tomorrow (Fig. 5).
