January 2023 U.S. State Temperature and Precipitation Rankings: Record Warm New England!

Discussion: January 2023 ranked 6^th warmest in the 129-year climatology (Fig. 1). Most of the eastern half of the U.S. was MUCH ABOVE normal during January including all-time-record warmth in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New Jersey. January 2023 ranked 18^th wettest in the 129-year climatology (Fig. 2). Most of the U.S. was wetter than normal including MUCH ABOVE normal in California to Iowa, Georgia, and much of New England. Nebraska observed their 3^rd wettest January on record while Massachusetts received their 4^th wettest mid-winter on record.
