The North Atlantic basin SSTA regime remains almost exactly normal in the tropics and subtropics with little change in July (Fig. 1). Trade winds have been stronger than normal preventing any warming. The outer tropical North Atlantic is very warm but that anomalous warmth has not advanced westward which forecast models claim will happen during the tropical cyclone season. Waters off the Northeast Corridor Coast are trending much warmer while east of Bermuda is cooling off.
