Discussion: The Rhine River levels remain critically low. However, the forecast valid for the next 7 days indicates a trend toward improving (Fig. 1). A wet weather pattern is forecast into the weekend ahead of a cooler pattern change. GFS indicates several inches of rain across the South-central Europe Mountain areas (Fig. 2). Following the rain unseasonably cool air spreads across much of Europe in the 6-10-day period (Fig. 3). The 11-15-day forecast shifts the coolest anomalies into Southeast Europe in the 11-15-day period (Fig. 4). Included in the cool weather zones of East Europe is a slight risk (20-30%) of at least one morning minimum temperature <0C/32F.
