La Nina Is A Little Stronger

La Nina weakened due to emergence of a subsurface Kelvin Wave in the equatorial East Pacific in early February. However, that influence is fading, trade winds are increasing and La Nina has regained some strength the past 2 weeks.

High Impact Weather: Colder Ukraine, East Coast of Australia Heavy Rain Continues

An upper trough becomes quasi-stationary over Ukraine this week and becomes more intense next week. Ukraine weather features rain and snow showers that become mostly snow this weekend and next week as a colder regime develops. In Australia the historic heavy rains on the East Coast continue. The New South Wales coast is hardest hit this week, but heavy rains return to the Brisbane area next week.

Knowing U.S. Springtime La Nina Rainfall Patterns

Next week (Mar. 6-10) features a La Nina-style rainstorm across the Mid-South U.S. according to ECMWF. The event is reminiscent of a wetter La Nina climatology for the East-central/Mid-south U.S. largely due to the warmer oceans of the middle latitudes occurring with modern-day La Nina episodes.
