Upper Air Pattern Causing Brazil Rains About to Change

An intense upper-level low-pressure system southwest of South America is compensated by an upper ridge with two centers either side of South America. In-between high-pressure areas, a low-pressure area over Southwest Brazil causes a streak of heavy rain during the past 30 days across a previous drought zone.

U.S. Winter Outlook Emphasizes Cold Risk West; Warm East as Strong -PDO/+AMO Fuel Pattern

The updated month 1-4 climate outlook for the U.S. features increasing forecast confidence based on the influence on North America climate by dramatic cool phase of the Pacific decadal oscillation and warm phase of the Atlantic multi-decadal oscillation. A weak ENSO regime has limited influence.

Europe Cold and Snow Ahead!

-NAO pattern inspires a vigorous stormy and cold trough across Europe centered on the 6-10-day period. Snow cover has lagged over northwestern Eurasia. However, during the next 10 days snow cover widens into Europe. ECMWF warms Europe in early December; prefer the colder CFS V2 forecast as meteorological winter arrives.

ECM ENS Continues Highest Skill in Medium-range

The skill scores during the medium range by primary forecast models indicate ECM ENS is the top model. Recently, ECM extended from 10 to 15 days. Skill scores for ECM will be added for ECM in the 11-15-day period soon. Data is provided by CWG/SVWM.
