The last of the arctic air is impressive sweeping into Texas and the Southeast today. Many historical records are challenged this afternoon in this region including Birmingham, AL where an expected afternoon high of 25 ties the all-time coldest for the date.

At midday temperatures across the Southeast States are historically cold. Included is teens across northern Alabama to low and mid 20’s across central/north Georgia. Birmingham is forecast to struggle to 25 this afternoon which would tie the coldest afternoon on record for this date (Fig. 1). Atlanta creeps to 29 which is 3rd coldest on record for the date (Fig. 2).

The projected temperatures tomorrow morning as dawn approaches are in the single nos. across the Lower Tennessee Valley with widespread teens Interior Southeast and down to 29 in the Orlando, FL area (Fig. 3).
