After today Erie, PA will surpass 100 in. of snow for the month of December. Christmas Day was the snowiest on record. Over 60 in. of snow fell Dec. 25-26. Wind speeds driving the lake-effect snow frequently has gusted over 40 mph.

The incoming arctic air will maintain heavy lake effect snow for parts of mainly western Michigan, western Pennsylvania and western New York. The areas receiving the super heavy snow, 3-4 feet (or more in Erie) is somewhat confined to the areas mentioned. The evolving arctic air cold pattern is just underway lasting through much of next week. More unusually heavy snowfall events are likely.
